Impact of Delay Propagation on NTV PCMOS Design

چکیده
While modern energy efficient low voltage designs focus on near-threshold voltage (NTV) operation for general purpose computing and exploiting an application's intrinsic error resilience by deploying probabilistic-CMOS (PCMOS) circuits for application specific computing, our results emphasize the impact of delay on PCMOS bits at NTV and lower voltage operations. This delay is very important to be considered while modeling PCMOS systems, as it propagates and has crucial effects on the most significant bits of the computations.

Designing and Evaluating Redundancy-based Soft Error Masking on a Continuum of Energy versus Robustness
Near-threshold computing is an effective strategy to reduce the power dissipation of deeply-scaled CMOS logic circuits. However, near-threshold strategies exacerbate the impact of delay variations on device performance and increase the susceptibility to soft errors due to narrow voltage margins. The objective of this work is to develop and assess design approaches that leverage tradeoffs betwee...
متن کاملUltra-Efficient (Embedded) SOC Architectures based on Probabilistic CMOS
Major impediments to technology scaling in the nanometer regime include power (or energy) dissipation and “erroneous” behavior induced by process variations and noise susceptibility. In this paper, we demonstrate that CMOS devices whose behavior is rendered probabilistic by noise (yielding probabilistic CMOS or PCMOS) can be harnessed for ultra low energy and high performance computation. PCMOS...
متن کاملSurvey and Future Directions
Highly scaled CMOS devices in the nanoscale regime would inevitably exhibit statistical or probabilistic behavior. Such behavior is due to process variations and other perturbations such as noise. Therefore current circuit design methodologies, which depend on the existence of deterministic and uniform devices with no consideration for either power consumption or probabilistic behavior, would n...
متن کاملA Minimal-Cost Inherent-Feedback Approach for Low-Power MRF-Based Logic Gates
The Markov random field (MRF) theory has been accepted as a highly effective framework for designing noise-tolerant nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In MRF-based design, proper feedback lines are used to control noise and keep the circuits in their valid states. However, this methodology has encountered two major problems that have limited the application of highly noise immune MRF-based circui...

This paper studies the impact of surrounding buildings on path loss and multipath delay spread for Personal Communication Services (PCS) operating inside of buildings. Measurements conducted inside three large office buildings in the San Francisco Bay area provide an extensive database for propagation models at 915 MHz and 1900 Wlz, and show variability in path loss and delay spread caused by m...
